Opportunity Grows Here

Opportunity Grows Here (OGH)

All growers are suffering from a shortage of labour and unfortunately this isn’t going to get be resolved quickly. If you are looking for workers – whether seasonal or permanent, make sure you place adverts on the HortNZ website https://www.picknz.co.nz/ because we have partnered with OGH to run a social media campaign that is already up and running and sending job seekers to this website.

Website overhaul

The TomatoesNZ (TNZ) website has been through a bit of an overhaul in recent months. We hope that the refreshed look is more suited to representing tomato growers and that it’s easier to find the information you need. Have a look and let us know what you think – is there something that we’ve missed? https://www.tomatoesnz.co.nz/ Something you’d like adding to the website? Email tomatoes@hortnz.co.nz to share your ideas

Tomato prices

The rising cost of food has been in the media a lot recently. We are all fully aware of why the price of tomatoes is always elevated in the winter months but as the graph below shows, in the year to date, it’s only the average national price in August that shows a modest year on year increase.

 Tomato Prices to August 2023

The winter prices don’t do enough to cover the increases in production costs that growers are facing and we are talking to media and politicians about the problems growers are facing. Use our key concerns document to talk to your local MP and councillor to help raise the profile of the situation you the growers are facing.
