Fresh tomato exports - 2014

In the 2014 calendar year:

• 3,040 tonnes of fresh tomatoes were exported, with a FOB value of NZ$8,891m.
• Exports went to 18 countries.
• Export volumes to Japan doubled from 499 tonnes in 2013 to 1057 tonnes in 2014. With this increase Japan became the top export market destination.
• 35% of tomato exports were destined for Japan, 32% to Australia, 12% to New Caledonia and 7% to Canada.
• The trend for decreasing exports to Australia continued with 20% less volume in the 2014 year when compared with 2103.  (2013 was down approx. 30% on 2012). Exports to the USA were just 2% of the total volume this year compared with 9% in 2013.  
• The average value for exports was $2.92/kg.
• Total exports increased about 12% up on 2013 and account for about 8% of fresh tomato volumes.

 

Conference 2015

The 2015 TomatoesNZ AGM and conference are scheduled for 28/29 July in Rotorua.  Registration for the 2015 Tomatoes NZ AGM and conference will soon be open.

TomatoesNZ is offering its members the opportunity to claim back the conference registration fee plus up to $250 towards the cost of travel and accommodation.

If you want to take advantage of this you should register yourself for the conference and submit a claim form with receipts attached. The funding pool is limited to about 15 growers, so funding will be provided (for one person per tomato growing entity) on a first-in-first served basis.  Claim forms can be found on the TNZ website or by contacting Mel Dingle 04 470 5666.

 

TNZ Board Meeting – Feb 2015

Topics of discussion at the February Board Meeting included prioritising projects under the now completed TNZ Strategy for the Fresh Tomato Sector, Waste Water Discharge, Government Industry Agreement (GIA), Veges.co.nz, Fresher by Sea Project, Irradiated Australian Tomato Labelling Requirements, Sponshorship for Young Grower of the Year and the 2015/16 budget.  Minutes from the TNZ Board meetings are available on the TNZ website.  These are accessible to TNZ members once you are logged in.
